Volleyball Recap: Mary Persons Triumphs

Mary Persons won the last time they faced Westside and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Seminoles by a score of 2-0. While the Bulldogs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 16-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Mary Persons took both sets by at least 16 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-6.

Mary Persons can attribute much of their success to Kourtney Harrington, who had seven aces and four digs. Those seven aces gave Harrington a new career-high.

Harrington wasn't the only good server: Mary Persons was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 19 aces. The Bulldogs are a perfect 6-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

The win made it two in a row for Mary Persons and bumps their season record up to 8-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Peach County and 3-5 Westside. As for Westside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Mary Persons didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Stratford Academy on the 19th. As for Westside, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Peach County on the 19th.
