Baseball Recap: Onaga Has No Trouble Against Blue Valley

Onaga won the last time they faced Blue Valley and things went their way on Thursday too. The Buffaloes blew past the Rams 10-1. The Buffaloes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by nine runs or more this season.

L.J. Koelzer was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Casen Hutfles and Jackson Kolterman did most of the damage at the plate: Hutfles went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Kolterman scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Onaga is undefeated when Kolterman posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xavier Berges, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Onaga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in three consecutive games.

The victory got Onaga back to even at 4-4. As for Blue Valley, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Coming up, Onaga will take on Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Blue Valley, they will challenge Frankfort on Monday.
