Baseball Recap: South Sevier's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

South Sevier hadn't beaten Richfield on the road since March 24, 2015 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Wildcats. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Ryker Freeman made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other pitching news, Stockton Roberts looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kameron Hessey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Peyton Ingram was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

South Sevier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richfield only posted an OBP of .281.

The victory was the fourth in a row for South Sevier, bringing their record up to 17-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Richfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

South Sevier will take on Millard at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Richfield, they will face off against Emery at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
