Softball Game Preview: Caldwell County Tigers vs. Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons

The Caldwell County Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caldwell County is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Monday just wasn't the day for Caldwell County's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of McCracken County on Monday.

Madisonville-North Hopkins never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hopkins County Central on Tuesday. They never let the Storm get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The Maroons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Mackenzie Stoltz was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Sadie Kirk was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Sydney Skeen was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Madisonville-North Hopkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Madisonville-North Hopkins' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Caldwell County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Caldwell County beat Madisonville-North Hopkins 9-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Caldwell County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
