Baseball Recap: Duval Has No Trouble Against Wise

DuVal's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Wise Pumas as they made off with an 18-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Jeremias Velez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for DuVal: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justin Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Batton, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

DuVal moved to 9-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Wise, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

As of now, neither DuVal nor Wise have any future games scheduled.
