Softball Recap: Three Straight Road Wins for Dyer County

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Gibson, Dyer County was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Haywood Tomcats a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Choctaws have won 14 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylee Key made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Caldwell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Abbie Gibbons, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Dyer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Haywood only managed two hits.

Dyer County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 28-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Haywood, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-5 record.

As of now, neither Dyer County nor the Tomcats have any future games scheduled.
