Baseball Recap: Providence Comes Up Short

Providence fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Polytechnic on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-5 to the Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pioneers of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Adrian Contreras put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Contreras wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Sarkisian, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Kiran Kostecka, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

Providence's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Polytechnic, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11.

While Providence had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
