Meanwhile, Albemarle earned a 62-54 victory over Orange County on Friday. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Fighting Hornets are ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Albemarle's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29 points. As for L.C. Bird, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 11-3.

L.C. Bird skirted past Albemarle 47-45 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will L.C. Bird repeat their success, or does Albemarle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
