Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Lions vs. Shelbyville Rams

The Marshall Lions will challenge the Shelbyville Rams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Marshall took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Mattoon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Marshall narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mattoon 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since April 18, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Payton McGuire, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Shelbyville put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] as Shelbyville made off with an 11-1 win.

Shelbyville pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Marshall, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Marshall suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Shelbyville in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Marshall avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
