Baseball Game Preview: Columbiana Clippers vs. Canfield Cardinals

The Columbiana Clippers will head out on the road to square off against the Canfield Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbiana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Columbiana is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Beaver Local just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Beavers, falling 10-4.

Max Conway was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dan Goehring, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Canfield nor Boardman made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Cardinals fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 3-2. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Canfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Gabriel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Canfield's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Columbiana, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Columbiana has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Canfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts.
