Basketball Game Preview: Omaha Northwest Huskies vs. Norfolk Panthers

The Omaha Northwest Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the Norfolk Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Omaha Northwest is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Omaha Westside on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Omaha Northwest lost 63-41 to Omaha Westside. The contest marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite their loss, Omaha Northwest saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Dubose, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of DaWayne Kearney, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, Norfolk was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-53 heartbreaker at the hands of Fremont.

Omaha Northwest's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Norfolk, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Omaha Northwest couldn't quite finish off Norfolk when the teams last played back in February of 2022 and fell 45-42. Thankfully for Omaha Northwest, Jack Borgmann (who went 8 of 10 on his way to 19 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
