Basketball Game Preview: Pisgah Dragons vs. Union Yellowjackets

The Pisgah Dragons will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Union Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pisgah will be strutting in after a victory while Union will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Tuesday, the stars were shining brightly for Pisgah in a 50-33 win over Wesson.

It was another big night for Laylah Johnson, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 16 boards, and nine assists. She has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Madysen Washington was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-42 heartbreaker at the hands of Nanih Waiya. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Warriors are ranked 107th).

Pisgah will need focus on slowing down Gracyn Tillman, one of several Union players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Tillman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rymia Craft, who posted 15 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Johnson wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Union was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Pisgah's victory bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Pisgah came up short against Union in their previous matchup back in November of 2019, falling 43-37. Can Pisgah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
