Basketball Recap: J'myun Huskey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kings Mountain over Ashbrook

Kings Mountain lost against Ashbrook back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Kings Mountain Mountaineers received a blow as they fell 84-66 to the Ashbrook Greenwave. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Greenwave are ranked 36th).

Kings Mountain lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being J'Myun Huskey, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Another player making a difference was Kee'Donn Linney, who posted 19 points.

Ashbrook had a senior duo take command as Jamari Smith went 7 of 12 en route to 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists and Issac Byers Jr. dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Armstrong, who earned 13 points and seven assists.

Kings Mountain's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8. As for Ashbrook, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kings Mountain will head out to challenge Huss at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kings Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.6 points per game this season. As for Ashbrook, they will head out on the road to face off against Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Ashbrook's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 17 matches.
