Basketball Recap: Wheatland Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Wheatland won the last time they faced Pine Bluffs, and Lily Anderson did her part to make sure it happened again. The Wheatland Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 victory over the Pine Bluffs Hornets on Tuesday thanks to Anderson, who posted 27 points and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Wheatland's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Tayen Wakkuri, who scored nine points. Those nine points gave her a new career-high.

Wheatland is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points over those games. As for Pine Bluffs, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6.

Coming up, Wheatland will square off against Torrington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pine Bluffs, they will challenge Niobrara County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Niobrara County's defense has only allowed 29.4 points per game this season, so Pine Bluffs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
