Recap: Heide Trask Titans vs. Pender Patriots

The Heide Trask Titans entered their tilt with the Pender Patriots with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Heide Trask took down Pender 61-47 on Tuesday. Given Heide Trask's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Pender is ranked 497th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Myron Mckoy, who scored 22 points along with eight assists and six steals. Mckoy is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sherrod Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Pender's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malcolm Driver, who scored 14 points along with five blocks. Another player making a difference was Ryan Howell, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Heide Trask has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Pender, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Heide Trask will head out on the road to challenge West Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Columbus is on a four-game streak of home wins, Heide Trask a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Pender, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against East Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully East Columbus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday.
