Football Recap: Washington County Extends Road Winning Streak to Three

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wilson Prep, Washington County was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 34-22 win over the North Edgecombe Warriors. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their six-point performance the matchup before.

Ishawn Fuller had an outrageously good game as he picked up 123 receiving yards and three scores. Those 123 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Shy Quez Chesson was another key player, rushing for 96 yards and one TD.

Despite the defeat, North Edgecombe saw an underclassman step up: freshman Saadiq Barber picked up 65 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 60 yards. Barber showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 61 yards.

Washington County pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.0 points over those games. As for North Edgecombe, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Washington County will take on Sallie B. Howard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for North Edgecombe, they will face off against Wilson Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
