Conrad Hunziker made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kahlil Rishwain, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Luca Cano also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Muir always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Thursday. Wilson put the hurt on Whitney with a sharp 14-4 victory. The game marked Wilson's most dominant win of the season so far.
Christopher Barrientos made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Barrientos was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Jesus Castorena was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Alex Han, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Muir pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Wilson, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Muir has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Muir's way against Wilson when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Muir made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Muir since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
