Basketball Recap: GVCS Broadfording's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

It was a good run, but GVCS Broadfording unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 75-53 to the Mountain Ridge Miners. The Lions were probably out for revenge after losing 72-33 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why GVCS Broadfording lost, don't look at Fernando Garcia. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 19 on his way to 19 points and eight steals. That's the most steals Garcia has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nashon Mann, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, GVCS Broadfording smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Ridge only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.

Mountain Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Breighner, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Breighner has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times he's played. John Delaney was another key player, as he made all 6 shots he took to post 15 points and six assists.

GVCS Broadfording's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7. As for Mountain Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season.

GVCS Broadfording will face off against Faith Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain Ridge, they will take on Fort Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Mountain Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
