Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salem). Everything went their way against the East Alton-Wood River Oilers on Thursday as they made off with a 21-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Oilers: they've now won eight in a row.

Noah Nix made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Jalen Inlow was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. He has become a key player for Salem: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ryan Detering, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI.

Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Salem back to even at 8-8. As for East Alton-Wood River, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Salem will take on Mt. Zion at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for East Alton-Wood River, they will venture away from home to face off against Metro-East Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
