Football Recap: South Allegheny Piles Up the Points Against Ligonier Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Allegheny). They claimed a resounding 62-14 win over the Ligonier Valley Rams. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-7.

South Allegheny had a senior duo take command as Joey Gamret rushed for 92 yards and a pair of TDs and Drew Cook picked up 79 receiving yards and two scores. Tyrone Claytor also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Special teams played a big role in the game for South Allegheny, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Cook, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

South Allegheny didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Cook.

The victory keeps South Allegheny at an undefeated 6-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.0 points on average this season. As for Ligonier Valley, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, South Allegheny is taking a road trip to square off against Shady Side Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Ligonier Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Charleroi at 7:00 p.m.
