Softball Recap: Lakeland Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Lakeland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Ridge Community Bolts on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Dreadnaughts needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Kennedy Davenport was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Paige Bettcher and Brooke Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Bettcher got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Martinez scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those four RBI gave Bettcher a new career-high. Kylie Wells was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Lakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lakeland's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Ridge Community, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Coming up, Lakeland will welcome All Saints' Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ridge Community, they will head out on the road to square off against Lake Gibson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
