Baseball Recap: Longmont Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Legacy, Longmont was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Mead Mavericks by a score of 5-1. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Tyson Hagen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Collin Pool, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. He has become a key player for Longmont: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-5 otherwise. Travis Check was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Longmont's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Mead, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-4 record this season.

Longmont will be playing in front of their home fans against Horizon at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mead, they will host Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raptors have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
