Lehman hasn't had much luck against Hays recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lehman Lobos will head out to take on the Hays Hawks at 2:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Lehman took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Rouse 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Lobos as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Carina Oliva spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Graciela Quiroz, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Isabella Ramirez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hays had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Panthers.
Hays let Natalia Aleman and Teuila Eteaki run wild. Aleman fired off two home runs while going 3-for-3, while Eteaki went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave Aleman a new career-high in home runs. Elaina Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Hays lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Hays pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Lehman, their record is now 8-9-1.
Lehman suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Hays in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Lehman avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
