Softball Recap: Western Branch Bruins vs. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints

There's no place like home for Western Branch, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints on Friday and snuck past 6-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Western Branch also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Kassidy Oneail spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in nine consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Marissa Bernheimer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and a double. Another player making a difference was Kaileigh Taylor, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Western Branch's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-2-2.

Western Branch will be playing in front of their home fans against Manor at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Manor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
