Basketball Recap: Rancho Comes Up Short

Rancho and Foothill squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Rancho had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Foothill Falcons and fell 63-36. The Rams were not able to make up for their loss to the Falcons from their previous meeting back in December of 2019.

Despite the loss, Rancho still got an impressive performance from Taylor Dagons, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards. The contest was Dagons' seventh in a row with at least 19 points. Claudia Vargas-Arellano was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Foothill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stephanie Ezugha, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 17 boards. Ezugha has become a key player for Foothill: the team is 8-3 when she posts at least ten rebounds, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiloh Smith, who posted ten points and eight steals.

Rancho's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Foothill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-12 record this season.

Rancho does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Foothill, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-50 victory against Somerset Academy Losee on the 13th.
