Softball Recap: Brookfield East Victorious

Brookfield East barely beat Menomonee Falls the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans never let the Phoenix get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 back in April.

Layla Diehl made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paeton Ulrich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Bracke, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Brookfield East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Brookfield East back to even at 9-9. As for Menomonee Falls, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-14.

Brookfield East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Menomonee Falls, they will head out to face off against Brookfield Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
