Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Mustangs vs. Cascade Cougars

The Mt. Vernon Mustangs will face off against the Cascade Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Mt. Vernon sitting on three straight wins and Cascade on 17.

On Monday, Mt. Vernon got the win against Vinton-Shellsburg by a conclusive 12-2. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, Cascade never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out South Winneshiek 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Cascade, their win bumped their record up to 19-1.

Mt. Vernon was able to grind out a solid victory over Cascade when the teams last played back in June of 2025, winning 8-3. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
