Football Recap: Smithfield-Selma Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After flying high against Southern Wayne last Friday, Smithfield-Selma came back down to earth. The Spartans had to suffer through a 49-0 loss at the hands of the South Garner Titans. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Titans are ranked 151st).

Johnavon Cox threw for 48 yards on five of 14 attempts. On the ground, Naeem Longmire rushed for 37 yards.

South Garner got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alijah Clarke out in front who rushed for 160 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. Clarke's longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Devin Shoulars was another key signal caller, throwing for 170 yards and three touchdowns.

Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for South Garner, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will welcome Clayton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Garner, they will face off against Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
