Baseball Game Preview: Hilltop Lancers vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs

Hilltop hasn't had much luck against Otay Ranch recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lancers will take on the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. The last five games Hilltop has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hilltop is headed into the match having just suffered their closest defeat since March 21st on Friday. They fell just short of Olympian by a score of 6-4.

Otay Ranch came out on top against Sweetwater on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Red Devils a 5-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won three in a row.

The result came thanks to Orlando Sivilla's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Moyses Salido, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Dimas Acevedo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Hilltop's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Otay Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.

Hilltop couldn't quite get it done against Otay Ranch when the teams last played back in May of 2021 as they fell 8-3. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
