Baseball Recap: Lake Region Comes Up Short

If Lake Region was feeling good fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Auburndale last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lake Region Thunder lost 18-3 to the Lake Wales Highlanders on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Thunder have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Dan Colon was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jehiel Gomez, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Lake Region has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Lake Wales' record now sits at 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Region will take on Bartow at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Wales, they will square off against George Jenkins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. George Jenkins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Lake Wales' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
