Recap: University Bulldogs vs. Eaton Reds
If the University Bulldogs were feeling good off their 82-43 takedown of the Valley Vikings last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. University lost to Eaton on the road by a decisive 57-43 margin on Tuesday. University was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Eaton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
University's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gage Schminke, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds, and Coehn Nitzel who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Schminke continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caden Villarreal, who scored five points.
Eaton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucas Stone out in front who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Mitch Haythorn was another key contributor, scoring 23 points.
University has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Eaton, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
University will take on Weld Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weld Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully University likes a good challenge. As for Eaton, they will head out on the road to face off against Berthoud at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
