Recap: New Brockton Gamecocks vs. Opp Bobcats

The New Brockton Gamecocks waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Opp 58-40. That's another feather in the cap for New Brockton, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

New Brockton found their leader in underclassman Reese Eddins, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Aniya Barkley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Opp's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dionna Stoudemire, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds. Stoudemire is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Cuba Wiggins was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

New Brockton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26 points. As for Opp, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-17.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Brockton will take on Pike County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Opp won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Elba at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Elba's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Opp's offense will have their work cut out for them.
