Baseball Game Preview: Arlington Catholic Cougars vs. Medway Mustangs

The Arlington Catholic Cougars will challenge the Medway Mustangs on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Arlington Catholic was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lowell Catholic on Sunday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 13-4 win. Considering the Cougars have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Sunday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Medway walked away with it. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Vikings on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Matt Olynciw looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Heavner, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Duguay, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Medway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nashoba Valley Tech only posted a batting average of .208.

Arlington Catholic pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Medway, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
