Basketball Game Preview: Fort Hancock Mustangs vs. Irvin Rockets

The Fort Hancock Mustangs will face off against the Irvin Rockets at 12:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Tuesday, Fort Hancock came up short against Jesus Chapel and fell 78-69.

Despite the loss, Fort Hancock got top-tier performance from Patrick Hernandez, who posted 19 points and five steals. Hernandez's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Inaki Arriaga, who put up 12 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Irvin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 48-21 loss at the hands of San Elizario.

Fort Hancock's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Irvin, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Fort Hancock couldn't quite finish off Irvin in their previous matchup back in November of 2021 and fell 60-57. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
