Basketball Recap: Platte Canyon's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

After losing to Alameda the last time they met, Platte Canyon decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Platte Canyon Huskies put the hurt on the Alameda Pirates with a sharp 66-44 victory on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Huskies have posted since December 10, 2024.

Platte Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevor Kirklin, who went 11 of 25 en route to 24 points and seven steals. The contest was Kirklin's third in a row with at least ten points. Max Flores was another key player, putting up 14 points along with six steals and five assists.

Platte Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Alameda's loss came despite strong showings from Vinny Arguero and Brian Sanchez. Arguero went 9 for 18 on his way to 22 points, while Sanchez posted 12 points and eight boards. Sanchez also posted a block, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Donavyn Lopez, who put up four points.

With the win, Platte Canyon broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-6. As for Alameda, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Platte Canyon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 77-30 defeat against Fort Lupton on the 28th. Alameda has also already played their next contest, a 61-59 loss against Sheridan on the 27th.
