Volleyball Recap: Wilmington Hurricane vs. Carroll Patriots

Wilmington lost against Carroll back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hurricane fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2. While the Hurricane didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 25-21 in the first set.

Wilmington took Carroll into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 15-6.

Jackilyn Brausch paced Wilmington's offense, picking up nine kills. Brausch got some help from Anna Niemesh and her 22 assists. Niemesh was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Meghan Maxwell was a one-woman wrecking crew For Carroll. as she had 12 digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Maxwell a new career-high in assists (21).

Wilmington has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Carroll, their win ended a four-match drought on the road and puts them at 11-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilmington will face off against Archbishop Alter at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Carroll, they will welcome Northridge at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
