Baseball Game Preview: Wildwood Warriors vs. Bridgeton Bulldogs

Wildwood has gone a perfect 3-0 against Bridgeton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Warriors will face off against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Wildwood will be strutting in after a victory while Bridgeton will be coming in after a defeat.

Wildwood was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Penns Grove on Monday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Warriors have won six games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Nolan Mawhinney made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, RJ Blanda was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Lysander Laureano also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Bridgeton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Schalick, falling 13-3.

Wildwood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Bridgeton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-20-1.

Wildwood took their win against Bridgeton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
