Baseball Game Preview: Lincoln Lions vs. Smithfield Sentinels

The Lincoln Lions will take on the Smithfield Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Lincoln turned things around against Coventry on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Oakers by a score of 5-2.

Isaac Cabral was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lincoln is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-8 otherwise. Cabral was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.

Cabral wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Marshall, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Smithfield faced North Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Sentinels walked away with a 6-2 win over the Cougars.

Smithfield pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their victory bumped their record up to 2-9.
