Volleyball Game Preview: Xavier Hawks vs. Manitowoc Lincoln Ships

The Xavier Hawks will challenge the Manitowoc Lincoln Ships at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Tuesday, Xavier made easy work of Green Bay East and carried off a 3-0 victory.

The final score came out to 25-5, 25-13, 25-19.

Among those leading the charge was Lily Renz, who had seven aces and three digs. Those seven aces gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Velasquez, who had five aces and three digs.

They weren't the only good servers: Xavier was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Manitowoc Lincoln, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Green Bay Preble on Thursday as they made off with a 3-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Ships as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.

The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-14.

Manitowoc Lincoln now has a winning record of 18-17. As for Xavier, their win bumped their record up to 23-8.

Xavier was able to grind out a solid victory over Manitowoc Lincoln when the teams last played back in September of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Ships have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
