Basketball Recap: Surry Central Skates Past Elkin with Ease

Surry Central won the last time they faced Elkin and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Golden Eagles took their matchup with ease, bagging a 59-26 victory over the Buckin' Elks. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Golden Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.

Surry Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reese Whitaker, who shot 45% from the field on her way to 12 points and three steals. The last time Whitaker's field goal percentage was this high was back in December of 2024. Jaycee Dalton was another key player, putting up seven points and five steals.

Surry Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Surry Central's record is now 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Surry Central will head out to face off against Community School of Davidson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elkin, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Forbush at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
