Softball Recap: Cabrini Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Cabrini came out on top against Western International on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Monarchs blew past the Cowboys 12-2.

Catherine Schumm spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cabrini got a massive performance out of Jodi Browning, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Browning has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Sterling, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Cabrini kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.6.

Cabrini's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Western International, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Cabrini will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cowboys: the pair will be back at it again later today.
