Softball Game Preview: Caroline Cavaliers vs. Culpeper County Blue Devils

Caroline and Culpeper County are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers will welcome the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Caroline comes in on four and Culpeper County on three.

On Monday, Caroline was able to grind out a solid win over King William, taking the game 5-1.

Jaidyn Tingen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nya Howard, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava Anderson, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Culpeper County won against Courtland two weeks ago with four runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Blue Devils beat James Monroe by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-3.

Caroline's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Culpeper County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Caroline beat Culpeper County 6-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
