Softball Recap: Calvert Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Calvert had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Gibsonburg Golden Bears 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Senecas: when they faced off against the Golden Bears back in March, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Ava Eilrich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Eilrich was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Eilrich wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison King, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Calvert's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gibsonburg, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.

Coincidentally, Calvert and Gibsonburg will both be playing Hopewell-Loudon the next time they take the field. The Golden Bears will head out to face the Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Senecas will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
