Recap: Apex Cougars vs. Sanderson Spartans
The Apex Cougars won the last time they faced the Sanderson Spartans, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Apex enjoyed a cozy 58-43 victory over Sanderson. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to 9 on the offensive boards, as Apex did.
Apex's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isabella Pease led the charge by scoring ten points along with eight rebounds. The contest was Pease's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Madison Hutto, who scored 14 points.
Despite the defeat, Sanderson had strong showings from Amyah Lynn, who scored 16 points, and Summer Haith, who scored 16 points. Haith scored a full 37.2% of Sanderson's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Hannah Sayre was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Apex has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Sanderson, they bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Apex will be home for the holidays to greet Cary at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sanderson, they will head out on the road to face off against Millbrook at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Millbrook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Tuesday.
