Volleyball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Nick Castillo and Stephen Blakely

Archbishop McCarthy suffered their biggest defeat since March 18th on Tuesday. They came up short against the Southwest Eagles, falling 3-0. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Archbishop McCarthy took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-23.

Despite the defeat, Archbishop McCarthy had strong showings from Stephen Blakely, who had 19 assists and four digs, and Nick Castillo, who had nine kills, two aces, and one block. Castillo is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had five or more in each of the last 15 games he's played. Gabriel Segui also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

Southwest was led to victory by Nelson Truiz and Shia Decastro. Truiz had 23 assists, while Decastro had eight digs and one assist. What's more, Truiz posted two digs, the most he's had over his last two matches.

The loss snapped Archbishop McCarthy's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-13 record. As for Southwest, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Archbishop McCarthy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southwest, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Cardinal Gibbons on the 16th.
