Basketball Recap: Chapel Hill Starts Season with Victory Against Knightdale

Chapel Hill gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed past the Knightdale Knights to the tune of 62-30. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Tigers had established a 24-point advantage.

Leading Chapel Hill to victory were Zoe Smith and Scarlett Gilner. Smith dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds, while Gilner posted 12 points and six boards. Gilner is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Kamaya Thompson, who put up seven points and four steals.

Knightdale dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Chapel Hill will be taking part in a tournament against Oak City Prep at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Knightdale, they will venture away from home to take on Panther Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
