Softball Recap: Cabrillo Jaguars vs. Millikan Rams

Cabrillo extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-14 in the process. They came up short against the Millikan Rams, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

As for Millikan, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For Millikan's part, Lauren Cantwell made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Cantwell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Jocelyn Owen was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chiala Villanueva, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

Cabrillo has already played their next game (against Estancia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Millikan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 8-3 win against Long Beach Poly on the 29th.
