Cordia extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-17 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Buckhorn Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, with their most recent defeat being a 14-13 loss on April 8th.

Riley Melton put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Raymond Rose made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
As for Buckhorn, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-13. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games.
On Buckhorn's side, Austin Riley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered seven earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Gunner Gay was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Buckhorn is undefeated when Gay posts two or more runs, but 7-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Campbell, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Coming up, Cordia will be playing in front of their home fans against Lynn Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Buckhorn, they will head out on the road to challenge Pike County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
