Basketball Recap: Evelyn Walcott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nichols over St. Mary's

Nichols and St. Mary squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Nichols had to settle for second. They fell 67-58 to the St. Mary's Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 53-47 loss last Monday.

Nichols' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evelyn Walcott, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards. Walcott is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in each of the last six games she's played. Madisen Wilson was another key player, putting up 25 points and six boards.

Nichols' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-11. As for St. Mary's, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Nichols nor St. Mary's have any future games scheduled.
