Baseball Recap: American Heritage Takes a Loss

American Heritage's tournament run continued when they took on Highland on Friday. American Heritage fell just short of Highland by a score of 6-5. The Stallions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Evan Fernandez was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Fernandez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Ashley, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. American Heritage is 2-1 when Ashley posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

American Heritage's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Highland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.

Looking ahead, American Heritage will square off against St. John Paul II Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (American Heritage 3.9, St. John Paul II Academy 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Highland, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Highland Hawks challenge The Covenant Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: The Covenant has averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
